Who is behind this site? My Purple USA was founded by Mara Gorman, a writer, and Matt Kinservik, a university professor, in response to the unprecedented 2016 presidential election.
Who is your sponsor? The site does not have any corporate or political sponsor and is funded solely by Mara and Matt, acting as concerned citizens of the United States.
Why can't I leave a comment on the story I just read? Because this site is intended as a safe, positive space that showcases interactions between people who know each other, we have decided not to open the stories we share up to comment or interaction. Periodically we will share open posts on our blog where we invite readers to respectfully discuss a specific topic both here and on our Facebook page and Twitter. We reserve the right to delete any and all comments that are contrary to the spirit of this site.
What is your goal? Our only goal is to help people in the United States with different political beliefs begin to stop viewing each other as enemies and instead as fellow citizens with whom they can engage in civil discourse.
I feel so hurt by this election, like I can never forgive. How can I possibly write to anyone who doesn't agree with me? Although it is our hope that our conversation template offers a safe place for you to begin speaking with people who disagree with you, we understand that you may not feel ready to begin that conversation yet. The stories and essays on our blog and the articles and websites in our resources section are all intended to help as well.
How can I share my story? You can submit your story using our online form. Once you have submitted it, we will reach out with you to discuss whether you would rather publish it anonymously. No names or content will be published on this website without express permission.
